Canadian Painter Gordon Drysdale will be attending & displaying his paintings & prints at the "GOLDEN ARROW" dinner. Gordon has graciuosly donated three signed prints of his famous "ARROW RL-203" as a silent auction prize. The Toronto Aerospace Museum is appreciative of this fundraising donation. "AVRO ARROW" - RL-203" In this painting of the Arrow, I wanted to include three elements. (1) Arrow RL-203 which was the only of the five airborne Arrows which carried two people in flight, also had the most complete paint scheme, including the red ensign on it's tail. (2) I included both chase planes which always flew with the Arrow on test flights; the CF-100 and the F-86 Sabre. I made sure I had the correct paint treatment for those aircraft as well as including thier correct serial numbers. (3) The entire Avro plant on the ground below at Malton, Ontario ( the northeast corner of L.B. Pearson Airport) with a full parking lot to illustrate the magnitude of the dedicated work force which was devistated at the whim of polititians.

"Team Arrow" Attends The Golden Arrow Dinner Flown by owner Bernie Lehman, the 1:12 ducted fan scale plane exceeds 150 mph " as Bernie likes to point out, that’s about Mach 3 (scale speed), and no windows were shattered…. Congratulations to Bernie and the team, not only for keeping alive an important part of Canadian aviation history, but also for being classy public representatives of the R/C model aviation community. At 9:52 a.m. on March 25, 1958, Arrow RL-201 roars into the skies above Malton for the Avro Arrow's first test flight. Three kilometres below, all non-essential Avro staff pour out of the plant to watch their plane circle overhead. Some 35 minutes later, the Arrow touches down and comes to a halt, braking parachutes trailing behind. Test pilot Janusz Zurakowski, who is given a hero's welcome, complains only that the cockpit has no clock.

What a souvenir! The years when Canada ''had an Air Force'' that took no back seat from anybody; we had it all! The designers, the skilled workers and the industry to support them; all lost when the Diefenbaker government decided to ax this Canadian-born aircraft and try to suppress its existance from the minds of all the Canadians in 1959. But the legend never died, today many Canadians wonder what would have happened if the Arrow would have been produced: Canada would have had a 25 year advance on interceptor design and would have flown the Arrow all the way to the middle 1990's with upgraded models of this aircraft. Alas, this magnificent aircraft was cut up for scrap and we lost our Avro workers to the American companies that were very glad to get this unsurpassed knowledge; they took the lead and put their aircraft designs on top where us Canadians were before this cancellation. So, the Arrow became a legend, and won't be forgotten by many aircraft fans here in Canada!
